Z - I loved reading your posts here, and the responses to them. You should continue to post here; may we use your knowledge of Hebrew, if we need to? BTW, I can actually hear your accent as I read your posts, and it is lovely! I especially enjoyed reading this little gem; I couldn't have said it better myself:
"AlmostAtheist yep Pay Attention to you and All the Flock what f*** s*** this is? And mature mans follows this? I can’t understand why????? Basically is how to spy on one other in the congregation and how to disfellowship one and how much damage we can do for the one who we don’t like and alls by the mane of God"
You could not have put it more clearly and honestly than that. That is exactly what it means to be a JW, z. Either, in the mane of god or in the name of god, LOL. I am not making fun, because if god exists, the JWs are basically fleas in his mane.

JW Apologist monopolizing anti-JW site

Thanks for helping some of those threads get back on topic.
The JW issue almost got buried in discussions about who the true god is - Allah or Jesus or whatever, and such - something I'm not too personally interested in - just want to spread the "good news" about the truth of JWs - they're honest & sincere because they believe their own lies.
Thanks again. I'm glad to see fewer JW apologists and less religious fanaticism when the discussion of how to answer/question JWs comes up.
Sunspot, thanks for sharing your reality checks! I'm so sorry to hear you were stuck with them for 30 years, but I'm really glad you can be out and open now! -

Their "BIG" news 'KNOCKING' documentary
by DannyHaszard inknocking documentary newsletter #1 summer 2005. .
witnesses.
stories of real families to humanize jehovah's witnesses.

Madame Quixote
From the Knocking newsletter promo:
"Or if you live in a university town, ask the dean of the history, religion, sociology, law or medical school departments to host a screening."
How about those of us who do live in such university towns, where showings of "Knocking" are planned, contact these same professors and insist they give equal time to ex-JWs, especially those "disfellowshipped" and/or labelled apostate, and to the non-JW relatives who have been negatively affected by the conversions of their loved ones?
How about we schedule discussions and debates after each showing and discuss issues such as the JW's UN membership; child molestation and wife-battering cases; other forms of child abuse; control tactics typically used by cults; how cults are identified; the use of HLCs by the WBTS; wrongful death suits against them; and misrepresentation of medical facts by the WBTS?
After all, turnabout is fair play. If they want publicity, they'll get it, don't you think?
BTW, don't you think there will be plenty of current JWs attending the screenings? And probably not many people from the general public are going to be there? What better opportunity to plant the seeds of doubt than in such a public forum? -

The warnings were TRUE
by unique1 inyou know all the myspace.com warnings that were on here about elders on a witch hunt searching for active jw's blogs and using them against them?
well the elders didn't search but an old aquaintenance did.
she was disfellowshipped for her blogs concerning all the casual sex she was having.
-
Madame Quixote
Sorry that the elders put you through this. They're a sorry lot, that bunch!
I have found it to be fairly easy to blog anonymously.
Don't let this experience discourage you, Unique1. You should continue to share your experiences about the borg; flog the borg with blogs.
Every ounce of truth about the false and unloving Jehovah's Witnesses should be shared. Good luck moving on! -

Talked to an elder about the BIG NEWS
by Jez ini had the opportunity to have a discussion with an elder the other day.
we were both in a public place and we started to talk.
he was depressed because one of his teens is now df'ed.
-
Madame Quixote
"I really don't think that most JWs think about their lives as 'choices' rather, go along to get along, or born into it." said Jez.
Jez - I never really thought about it that way. Very interesting point. I'll try to remember that if ever I talk to one of them again. And I'll try to keep reminding myself that I do have choices, now that I'm out. I think there has always been a very unconscious, but strident voice in me that says "no choices allowed" all the time, as a result of my JW upbringing. Thanks for sharing that.
It's amazing to me that people on the outside have actual conversations about stuff like that with Witnesses. I am unable to. Being disfellowshipped is probably the least of my reasons not to try, LOL and Grrrr. -

"Legally binding" baptism?
by Riverwatcher ini've done a bit of reading, and now find that i have a question about baptism.. recently, a poster wrote something about j/w baptism being legally binding.
when i read this, i took it in the literal sense; that somehow if one were baptised, and at a later date chose to walk away, or d/a themselves, that the org could somehow "come after" them.
my question is...does this ever really happen?
-
Madame Quixote
Good point, Acadian, especially where minors are concerned. I suspect that minors who are baptized and shunned (into adulthood) might have legal recourse, esp. if they could prove the organization into which they are baptized misled them. The blood issue and suffering for refusing blood transfusions, based upon believing what the society told one about that would be a good place to start.
Proving the disfellowshipping and that one was misled is quite another thing, and dealing with a supposedly religious organization makes that task all the more daunting; however, I think it really is quite a stretch to call baptism "legally binding." It is religiously binding, but I doubt that the JWs would or could have much true legal recourse to "go after" anyone (even an adult) baptized into "the truth." After all, there really is no written contract; however, I do remember signing something when I was 13 that said I understood and agreed to all their silly nonsense. Very silly, if you ask me - all of it. I think the JWs walk on very thin ice in the case of shunning teens and adults who were baptized as children (like myself).
I think if someone were to really "go after" them with some sort of a class action suit that could prove to be a real mess for the WBTS, esp. if all those who have essentially lost family ties because of d'f'ing were to sign up. It would be all very difficult to prove and document, not to mention, extremely expensive. But if anyone wants to start such a suit, I'll sign on. -

**MUST READ** AlanF's email to Knocking.org
by sf inthis is a must-read that, hopefully, will stay an "active topic" for all seekers and lurkers, by bumping it to the top as often as possible.
alan wrote it in randys {dogpatch} thread regarding knocking.org documentary and in reply to the email mr. engardio sent to barbara anderson.
however, it is so vital a read that it indeed needs its own thread:.

I would love to have documentation of all the stuff about Russell and Rutherford and all the WBTS predictions. Could someone refer me to such? It's not that I doubt the statements, but I'd love to be able to back it up if I ever send any of this info out to my relatives.
I just counted five generations in my family who have bought into all the JW bullshit. How does this happen to people? I mean five generations, counting my nephews who are 2 - 10 years old!
I'm so disgusted with my brother and sister right now because they're both college educated and I thought they'd get out (of the JWs) because of it (education). My brother graduated from NC State with an engineering degree, for god's sake; and married another college-educated foreign language expert JW (who is no doubt working as a JW missionary).
The saddest thing is that I always thought my sis & bro were smarter than me, but I'm the one who's shunned for not believing in Jehovah and for being an atheist all these years.
I was 15 when I left the "truth," again, for god's sake! WTF!? These words from the letter apply to me:
"There are many stories of young teenagers doing the normal teenage stupid things, and ending up being shunned for life by their entire families."
Going on 26 years for me; and the times my family did not shun me and tried to help me out, they risked being disfellowshipped themselves. I'm sure my mother has been informally shunned for that and because of her untreated mental illness.
What a disgusting "religion." I want to sue for all the money my family has spent over the years on WBTS literature, for all the time lost to that society. I've been disinherited, I'm sure, too, although no one has ever mentioned it formally to me. I would be very shocked and surprised to find if I ever got an inheritance. If I did, it would go to Silent Lambs or some website like this one. GD the WBTS!!!!
BTW, thank you for posting the letter. It is very informative. Sorry about the rant. I'm about to finish my second (or third ?) glass of wine.
